چکیده

The objective of this paper is to investigate the use calcium aluminate cements as alternative within context nuclear waste stabilization by solidification. Using an external 60Co source, effect γ-radiation on H2 gas production one cement-based materials (cement “Ciment Fondu”) and its stable hydrates, was studied. amount produced these cement pastes found be much lower (up five times less) than that Portland containing same water, especially in low range water ratios (W/C ≤ 0.4) where essentially engaged hydrates. two major hydrates Ciment Fondu, gibbsite AH3 katoite hydrogarnet C3AH6, very compared with main other (Portland cement, Calcium Sulfo-Aluminate Magnesium Phosphate cements). type hydroxyl groups and/or molecular influences significantly production. Thus, nature hydrate a key parameter aim optimizing matrices respect under irradiation. XRD analysis shows crystal structures are preserved up high doses electron irradiation (3 GGy). This makes (CAC) potential good candidates for conditioning from point view their stability

Solidification/stabilization of toxic metals in calcium aluminate cement matrices.

The ability of calcium aluminate cement (CAC) to encapsulate toxic metals (Pb, Zn and Cu) was assessed under two curing conditions. Changes in the consistency and in the setting time were found upon the addition of the nitrates of the target metals. Both Pb and Cu caused a delay in CAC hydration, while Zn accelerated the stiffening of the mortar. Compressive strengths of the metal-doped mortars...

The Hydration Products of a Refractory Calcium Aluminate Cement at Intermediate Temperatures

The major hydraulic phase in all the calcium aluminate cements including ciment fondue is CA (CaAl2O4). Once hydrated, it starts to form the hexagonal crystals of CAH10 and C2AH8 that depending on the time and temperature of hydration convert to the cubic crystals of C3AH6 and AH3. The nature, sequence, ...

Mesoscale texture of cement hydrates.

Strength and other mechanical properties of cement and concrete rely upon the formation of calcium-silicate-hydrates (C-S-H) during cement hydration. Controlling structure and properties of the C-S-H phase is a challenge, due to the complexity of this hydration product and of the mechanisms that drive its precipitation from the ionic solution upon dissolution of cement grains in water. Departin...

The Hydration Products of a Refractory Calcium Aluminate Cement at Low Temperatures

Calcium aluminates (CA) are the most important hydraulically setting cements used for preparing refractory castables, because they develop high strength at very early ages after placements.  The anhydrous phases of this kind of cements are CA, CA2 and traces of C12A7 and alpha-alumina. The major hydraulic phase in all of the CA cements including ciment fondu...
